随着2024Fall申请的临近,很多同学已经开始抓紧时间着手准备文书,申请美国大学时,除了要提交一篇个人陈述文章Personal Statement (简称PS,即Common Application系统里面的主文书)之外,还有很多学校会设置一些独具特色的文书题目即补充文书Supplement Essay。常见的补充文书类型有Why School, Why Major, Community Contribution, Activity, Creative Essay等等。

目前芝大、塔夫茨大学、耶鲁、达特茅斯陆续公布了2024Fall的附加文书题。一起看看今年的申请文书题目跟往年相比有哪些变化吧!

01、CA新申请季主文书题目与去年一样

CA申请主文书是7选1的Writing,英文字数要求250-650字。以下7个问题是2023-2024年申请季主文书的问题,申请者可根据自身背景选择一个最适合自身背景的问题来进行创作。

1.Some students have a background, identity, interest, or talent that is so meaningful they believe their application would be incomplete without it. If this sounds like you, then please share your story.对于部分学生来说,他们的背景、身份、兴趣或才能意义非凡,并且他们坚信,如果没有这些,申请将是不完整的。如果你也有同感,请分享你的故事。

2. The lessons we take from obstacles we encounter can be fundamental to later success. Recount a time when you faced a challenge, setback, or failure. How did it affect you, and what did you learn from the experience?我们从挫折中所吸取的教训可能是今后成功的基础,至关重要。请回忆自己所经历过的一个挑战、挫折或是失败,它对你有什么影响,你从这次经历中学到了什么?

02芝加哥大学附加文书题目

芝加哥大学长期以来一直以挑衅性的文书问题而闻名。今年芝大的文书一如既往地有创意和有趣,提供了七个Extended Essay(往年六选一),一起来看看今年的文书题目有多“烧脑”吧!

01、问题1:必填

How does the University of Chicago, as you know it now, satisfy your desire for a particular kind of learning, community, and future? Please address with some specificity your own wishes and how they relate to UChicago.

Essay Option 1

Exponents and square roots, pencils and erasers, beta decay and electron capture. Name two things that undo each other and explain why both are necessary.

Essay Option 2

“Where have all the flowers gone?” – Pete Seeger. Pick a question from a song title or lyric and give it your best answer.

– Inspired by Ryan Murphy, AB’21《Where Have All The Flowers Gone》是“美国现代民歌之父”皮特·西格演唱的一首歌曲。从歌名或歌词中选择一个问题,并给出最佳答案。

Essay Option 3

“Vlog,” “Labradoodle,” and “Fauxmage.” Language is filled with portmanteaus. Create a new portmanteau and explain why those two things are a “patch” (perfect match).

Essay Option 4

A jellyfish is not a fish. Cat burglars don’t burgle cats. Rhode Island is not an island. Write an essay about some other misnomer, and either come up with and defend a new name for it or explain why its inaccurate name should be kept.

Essay Option 5

Essay Option 6

Draw on your best qualities as a writer, thinker, visionary, social critic, sage, citizen of the world, or future citizen of the University of Chicago; take a little risk, and have fun!

03、耶鲁大学附加文书题目

耶鲁大学的补充文书题目分为简答题和必答文书两部分。简答题是耶鲁大学文书的重要组成部分,因为简短,最好直奔主题,言简意赅,突出最生动的故事。必答文书题目,则根据申请人选择的申请平台而略有不同。

和去年相比,2024Fall耶鲁附加文书简答题第二和第三道更换了新题,必答文书新增了第三题。

01、简答题Short Answer Questions

提交Coalition Application,Common Application或QuestBridge Application 的申请人需要回答以下简答题。QuestBridge申请人将通过耶鲁大学QuestBridge问卷完成以下简答题,在收到申请后,耶鲁大学录取状况门户网站上可以找到这些问题。

Question1

Students at Yale have time to explore their academic interests before committing to one or more major fields of study. Many students either modify their original academic direction or change their minds entirely. As of this moment, what academic areas seem to fit your interests or goals most comfortably? Please indicate up to three from the list provided.

招生官青睐的文书有何特点?

好的文书是打造学生亮点优势的一枚利器,在强化申请者素质能力和个性特色方面起到至关重要的作用。但,写一篇出色的文书对于很多学生来说是一件让人头疼的事情。

斯坦福大学曾研究了加州大学6万申请者的24万篇文书,通过对这些文书进行分析总结出了学生最常见的70个文书主题。

虽然文书主题大同小异,如何写出拥有自己个性化色彩的故事和内容,就体现出申请者不同个性和思考水平的差异。

很多学生认为写好文书就是要突出英文写作技巧和语言运用能力,喜欢往文书中堆砌大量高难度词汇和语法,反而导致漏洞百出;也有很多学生直接找机构或个人代笔或过度包装夸大其词。在此合领老师提醒,千篇一律、模板化的文书写作套路,是无法吸引招生官们的目光的。

前斯坦福大学招生官表示:“通常,写一个好故事意味着放弃直白的自我推销。学生可以讲述关于失败或生命中最脆弱时刻这些引人入胜的故事,他们也可以写一些看似微不足道,但能说明他们的兴趣或动机重要观点的情况。”

在申请季,美国大学的招生委员会要浏览上百、上千份申请材料,平均审核每份申请文书的时间大概是2-5分钟。英国高等教育政策研究所(Hepi)一项针对英国大学招生人员进行的调查则发现,招生官阅读个人陈述的平均时间为2分钟,39%的受访者仅用1分钟或不到1分钟,罗素集团大学的招生官则只花费90秒。
