「One Pod 单循坏赛制」,每个队伍都会与其他所有队伍比赛一次。

10-12支队伍

「Double Pods 双小组赛制」,每个小组内的队伍会进行单循环赛,而两个小组之间可能不会有直接的比赛,或者只在特定的轮次中进行交叉比赛。

Sample Pro Case

Position: We support the topic: We should encourage individuals to start their own business rather than work as full-time employees for corporations.

Contention 1: More Creativity

When people start their own businesses, they have the freedom to be more creative. They are not limited by someone else's rules or ideas. Instead, they can try new things and develop unique products or services that might not exist otherwise. For example, imagine a student who loves drawing and has a talent for creating fun and colorful characters. This student could start a custom art business where they design and sell their own artwork, like posters, stickers, or even digital drawings for video games. By doing this, they can share their unique style with others and bring joy to many people.

This creativity can lead to innovative products that many people enjoy and use. When new and exciting products come into the market, they can make life more interesting and fun for a large number of customers. There's a high chance of success since business owners control their ideas and can quickly adjust to what people like. The positive effects can happen almost immediately as new products are introduced, making a difference in people's lives right away. Encouraging individuals to start their own businesses helps bring more creativity into the world, benefiting everyone.

Contention 2: Financial Independence

Owning a business can help individuals achieve financial independence. This means they have control over how much money they make and can improve their financial situation over time. Business owners have the potential to earn more money than they might as employees because they keep the profits their business generates. For instance, a student who runs a lemonade stand can save and invest the money they earn. As they learn more about running a business, they might expand their stand into selling different kinds of drinks or snacks. Over time, their small business could grow, allowing them to earn more money than they would by just getting an allowance or doing chores.

This financial independence can improve the quality of life for many people. When individuals have more money, they can help their families, afford better education, or invest in their communities. There's a good chance of financial growth with hard work and dedication. While not every business will become a big company, many small businesses succeed enough to make a positive difference in the owners' lives. The benefits can increase steadily as the business becomes more successful. Starting a business empowers individuals to take control of their financial future.

Contention 3: Job Satisfaction

Starting a business can lead to higher job satisfaction because individuals can choose projects they are passionate about. When people work for themselves, they can focus on what they love and enjoy their work more. For example, a student interested in technology might start a small tech company, creating gadgets or apps that they find exciting. Instead of doing tasks they find boring or uninteresting at a regular job, they get to work on projects that inspire them every day.

Higher job satisfaction can make many people happier in their lives. When individuals are happy with their work, it positively affects their mood, health, and relationships with others. There's a high likelihood of increased happiness as people pursue their interests. Doing something you love makes it more enjoyable to go to work each day. The positive feelings can start right away and continue to grow as the business develops. Encouraging individuals to start their own businesses allows them to follow their dreams and leads to a more fulfilling life.

Sample Con Case

We oppose the topic: We should encourage individuals to start their own business rather than work as full-time employees for corporations.

Contention 1: Financial Risk

Starting a business involves significant financial risk. New businesses often require a lot of money to get started, such as buying supplies, renting a space, or marketing the products. There's no guarantee that the business will be successful, and many new businesses fail within the first few years. For example, a student who opens a toy store might spend all their savings on buying toys to sell and setting up the shop. If the store doesn't attract enough customers, they could lose all the money they invested.

This financial loss can harm many individuals and their families. Losing money can make it difficult to pay for important things like food, housing, or education. There is a high chance of business failure, especially for new entrepreneurs who might not have much experience. The financial impact can happen quickly after starting the business. Bills and expenses start right away, but profits might not come in as fast. Therefore, encouraging individuals to start their own businesses might put them in a difficult financial situation.

Contention 2: Lack of Stability

Owning a business can lead to unstable income. Unlike a regular job that provides a steady paycheck every month, business income can vary greatly. Some months might be good with lots of sales, while others might be slow. For instance, a student-run bakery might have busy days during holidays but very few customers on regular days. This makes it hard to predict how much money they will make and to plan for expenses.

This income instability can cause stress and uncertainty for many people. Not knowing how much money will come in can make it hard to pay bills or save for the future. There is a moderate chance of fluctuating income depending on the business's performance. Even businesses that are generally successful can have bad months. Financial stress can occur as soon as income becomes irregular. This can affect not just the business owner but also their family. Working as an employee provides a steady income, which helps people feel secure and plan for their future.

Contention 3: Limited Resources and Support

Business owners often have fewer resources and less support than employees. In corporations, employees usually have access to training programs, benefits like health insurance, and support systems to help them do their jobs well. For example, if an employee doesn't know how to use a new computer program, the company might provide training. Business owners, especially those just starting out, have to handle everything themselves. A student entrepreneur might have to do the marketing, sales, customer service, and accounting all on their own.

Limited resources can hinder the success of many businesses. Without enough help or knowledge, it's hard to compete with larger companies. There is a high risk of burnout and feeling overwhelmed due to handling multiple roles. Managing all aspects of a business can be exhausting, leading to stress and health issues. These challenges can arise immediately as the business starts. This can make running a business very difficult, especially for someone without much experience.
