Imagine that you have just given a presentation to your classmates or coworkers and you want to know how well you performed. Which one of the following would better help you learn from your weaknesses (mistakes) and improve your skills for your next presentation? Why?
- Watching a recording of your presentation and working by yourself to identify your weaknesses
-- Having classmates or coworkers who attended your presentation identify your weaknesses and discuss them with you
Echoing ...'s perspective , I firmly believe that analyzing my own performance by watching a recording is the wiser approach.Beyond the typical reasons, my conviction is grounded in the fact thatfriends and classmates may not scrutinize my presentation as closely as I would. Moreover, they are likely to offer undue praise, avoiding harsh criticism to preserve our relationship, even if they notice obvious flawssuch as awkward pauses and gestures. Therefore, despite their good intentions, their feedback may not be as beneficial as the insights I can gain from self-review.
For instance,when I view my presentation as an audience member, I can critically assess whether the dramatic elements I incorporated elicited the desired reactions or if I spoke too quickly, losing the audience’s engagement. Such self-assessment allows me to experience my presentation from an external perspective, giving me genuine feedback that is invaluable for improvement.
In conclusion, while feedback from peers might provide some insights into overlooked aspects, the advantages are minimal compared to the comprehensive benefits of self-evaluation through video recordings.(175字)
