As the Internet has become an indispensable part of our life nowadays, many people begin to believe that it is the most important invention ever made by human beings. While the Internet iswithout doubtone of the greatest inventions in human history, it is perhaps not the single most important one.

The Internet is a great inventionin thatit makes our life more convenient and our work more efficient. Before theadventof the Internet, for instance, we had to travel a few miles to the post office in order to send a letter to our friends, who then had to wait a few days to receive the letter. But now the Internet enables us toexchange informationwith our friendsin a blink of an eye. In work situations, the Internet is even more useful because it has rendered management, production, distribution, and selling highly efficient and thus has significantlyboosted the productivityof the whole society.

Yet we can hardly say that the Internet is THE most important invention in human history, if by “the most important invention” we mean one that is not onlyground-breakingbut also completely necessary for human beings to exist. Judged from this perspective, the Internet is perhaps not a suitablecandidatefor “the most important invention”, since, without the Internet, the human world would still be there just as it was in the pre-Internet age. So, instead of the Internet, I would label language as “the most important invention”, because it was the invention of language thatultimatelydistinguishedhumans from animals and made possible everything we have now in the human world.

To conclude, the Internet is an invention as great as electricity, solar energy, and the atomic bomb, but if we have to choose “the most important invention” in human history, I wouldgive my vote tothat of language.（322 words)
