好处有两方面。一是诸如技术等理工类科目让学生在毕业后能够有更多的就业机会和能力。相较于艺术等虚无缥缈的精神产物,理工类科目能产出更多实际的产品,这样的技能对于学生未来的收入似乎更有保障。二是科学技术进步能为人类社会发展带来益处,而想要实现科学进步需要更多人才投入其中,因此需要让更多大学生学习相关科目并在毕业后从事相关领域工作或研究。

问题同样有两方面。一是缺乏兴趣的学生在学习过程中效率会降低,他们的主动学习意愿度会更差,进而导致学习效果难以保障。二是什么科目对于未来有用是难以客观定义的。对于个人来说,并不是只有科学与技术才能带来可观收入。对于社会来说,科学、艺术等领域均衡发展,人们的精神世界和物质世界都需要得到满足,社会发展才更为健康。

Never has the controversy over what major students should choose in their campus life stopped being fascinating among people since individuals in today’s society are more likely to get access to education. While it is necessary for them to study things that are closely related to their coming careers, I would argue that the interest-based choices are more important.

Admittedly, the subjects contributing directly to the mainstream of the society are of great significance to these days’ undergraduates, since they initially provide brighter career prospects for them. The internet-orientated majors, for example, would give abundant job opportunities to the students hunting for the information industries, guaranteeing the stable life and sustainable income for them. In addition, these majors, compared with others, are with higher maturity due to the majority of professionals occupying in them, thus they would evolve an integrated and systematic development relating to the vocations, which means that students involved in these majors could get a better promotion and a deepened pace alongside their future path.

Whereas it is more essential that the major choices should closely adhere to the affection of the students despite the practical use of the subjects regarding the future life. Even though the vocational path of the majors related to science and technology would provide a wide range of opportunities, people will not go any further if they are without interest in them, let alone the promotion or deepening steps. Conversely, an interest-driven subject would somewhat bring about the happiness and achievement in every detail of the research and occupation to people, who would, therefore, pay little attention to the problems concerning to the finance of individual development. Besides, to study following one’s preference would generate more enthusiasm, passion, and giftedness in people devoted to the majors, then nurture a great number of specialists, high achievers, or even masters in some fields, fostering even a greater quantity of fortune and fame to the individuals themselves.

In sum, the practical subjects are contributing to a sustainable and bright future to students, but on no account should the affections on their studies be underestimated.
