Introduction:

I agree with the statement that the fashion industry takes a toll on our environment, as customers are often prompted to buy new outfits.

takes a toll - 造成损害

🚩Tips:

Body Paragraph 1

Firstly, our ecological system might suffer when people are swayed by the latest fashion trends, which often involve fur coats. In order to make substantial profits, fashion companies sometimes organize fashion shows where models wear expensive fur coats, showcasing their beauty.

Consequently, fur coats have become notoriously popular among wealthy individuals, who are led by the fashion industry to believe that fur products symbolize beauty, wealth, and social status. However, the killing of certain species to produce these clothes can be devastating to our ecosystem, which is an intricate web of interconnected species.

Once some animals decline in number, their predators might face starvation, disrupting the entire food chain.Even more concerning is the fact that clothes made from the hides of endangered species have become increasingly popular.

This is because their scarcity creates a sense of exclusivity and luxury, which appeals to certain wealthy consumers, driving up demand and encouraging illegal poaching.

be swayed by - 被影响

decline in number - 数量减少

appeals to - 吸引

driving up demand - 推高需求

🚩Tips:

Body Paragraph 2

Even if most people refrain from buying fur products due to their horrendously high prices, they are likely influenced by fast fashion chain stores, whose product lines change swiftly every season.

Fast fashion brands rely on a business model that prioritizes low costs and rapid production cycles, achieved by exploiting workers in sweatshops and using inexpensive raw materials.

This encourages consumers to buy more clothes at lower prices, so they often discard them after just a few months to keep up with ever-changing trends. As a result, many clothes end up in landfills because their owners do not bother to reuse or recycle them, contributing to waste problems. Many of these discarded clothes are made from synthetic fabrics, which are not biodegradable.

When these fabrics break down in landfills, they release microplastics into the environment, polluting water bodies and soil, and ultimately entering the food chain.

refrain from - 避免

keep up with - 紧跟

break down - 分解

microplastics - 微塑料

🚩Tips:

Conclusion

In conclusion, I believe that our environment is negatively impacted by the increasingly influential fashion industry, because people are buying more animal-based products and throwing away their old clothes, causing ecological imbalance and worsening waste problems.

🚩Tips:
